Privacy policy

Last updated: 2 November 2026

In short: we only keep what we need to run premortem. No ads, no tracking cookies, no selling data — ever.

Who runs premortem

premortem is an independent, free project by Navneet S. Questions or requests: open an issue on our GitHub page.

What we collect, and why

  • The idea you type. We send this one line to Google Gemini (to sort it into a business type) and use it in web searches through Tavily. We save it with your search so the same results can be shown again. Please don’t type anything confidential.
  • Your email — only if you sign up for updates and tick the consent box. We use it only to send occasional premortem news. Every email lets you unsubscribe.
  • Mistake reports — the text you send with “Report a mistake”, so we can fix the data.
  • A scrambled visitor code — made from your internet address, scrambled so it can’t be turned back. It’s used only to limit how many new searches one person can start per day, and it’s forgotten after 24 hours.
  • Visit counts — which pages are opened, from which kind of device and country, and which site sent you. We use GoatCounter for this: no cookies, no personal profile, and we can’t see who you are.
  • How pages are used — Zoho PageSense records clicks, scrolling and anonymous session replays so we can see where the site is confusing. It sets its own cookies. Text typed into boxes is hidden in these recordings.

What stays on your device

Your answers to the red-flag checklist and a copy of the sample report on the landing page are saved in your own browser, so they’re there next time. They never leave your device. Apart from Zoho PageSense (below), we don’t use tracking cookies.

Who helps us run premortem

  • Zoho Catalyst (India) — hosts the website and stores the data.
  • Google Gemini — reads news articles and sorts your one-line idea.
  • Tavily — searches the web for news articles.
  • GoatCounter — counts visits, without cookies.
  • Zoho PageSense (India) — heatmaps and session replays, to improve the site.
  • Google Fonts, jsDelivr and unpkg — deliver fonts and code libraries to your browser.
  • GitHub Pages — serves the landing-page video, only when you press play.

Each follows its own privacy policy. We never sell or share your data with anyone else.

The companies shown

premortem shows information about businesses that was published in public news, always with a link to the source. If something about a company is wrong, use “Report a mistake” or open an issue on our GitHub page and we’ll review it.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in any email.
  • Ask us to delete your email or a search you made: open an issue on our GitHub page.
  • Clear your browser’s site data to remove what’s saved on your device.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
